On May 25 and 26, 42 representatives from various ministries and agencies that are working in the migration management field in Tajikistan met at Saturn-Shambari resort for the “Final Meeting with National Partners on Mainstreaming Findings of the Researches in the New Strategy on Migration until 2030”.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Tajikistan, this meeting, which is considered to be the second meeting of the Inter-ministerial Working Group on Development of the New Strategy on Migration until 2030 created a platform for national stakeholders to discuss findings of researches as well as possibility of integrating them in new policy document on migration.

The meeting was chaired by Shahnoza Nodiri, the Deputy Minister of Labor, Migration and Employment of Population of the Republic of Tajikistan.

This two-day event is funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, which is supporting IOM initiative titled "Mitigating Socio-economic Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Migrants and Communities in Central Asia and the Russian Federation".  The objective of the initiative is to mitigate the socio-economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on migrants and communities and help governments of the Central Asian states and the Russian Federation address operational challenges of migration management in the current global health crisis.  To achieve the objective, this event helped improve national stakeholders' understandings of the profile, migratory routes, economic and labor situation, living conditions and main protection needs of the migrants and returnees.

During the event, the participants had opportunities to have a close look at detailed findings of regional researches on the “Socio-economic Effects of Covid-19 on Returnees and Stranded Migrants in Central Asia and the Russian Federation” and “Knowledge, Attitude and Practices of Central Asian Migrants and their Families on Remittance Sending, Receiving and Investing Behaviors”.  Additionally, the discussions helped participants to identify the best ways to mainstream gaps underlined by the researches in the new policy drafts on migration management.
