Tajik Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda, who arrived in Tehran on June 1 on a working visit, met with his Iranian counterpart Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli on the same day to discuss cooperation.
According to the Tajik Interior Ministry press center, the two signed a memorandum of cooperation at the end of the meeting.
IRNA says that according to that agreement, Iran and Tajikistan will have broader cooperation in campaign against organized crime, extremism and terrorism, narcotic drugs trafficking, training of police forces, exchange of experience, exchange of university students and professors, and also making greater investments in commercial and trade activities.
As part of his working visit to Iran, Ramazon Rahimzoda yesterday met in Tehran with General Hossein Ashtari, the commander of Iranian Disciplinary Force (the Law Enforcement Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran).
The two discussed ways to expand the bilateral cooperation, and during the meeting, it was proposed to open an office of Iranian police in Tajikistan and an office of the Tajik Interior Ministry in Iran, says the Tajik Interior Ministry press center.
In this context, the parties reportedly discuss interaction between the law enforcement agencies of the two countries in seeking and detaining criminals as well as collaboration within the framework of Interpol National Central Bureaus (NCBs).
Tajik interior ministry also got acquainted with activities of the Law Enforcement Force of Iran and visited an exhibition where weapons and heavy military equipment were presented.
He also attended a tactical exercise of the Iranian Disciplinary Force, the Tajik Interior Ministry press center says.
The Law Enforcement Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran or Disciplinary Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran is the uniformed police force in Iran. The force was created in early 1992 by merging the Shahrbani, Gendarmerie and Islamic Revolutionary Committees into a single force. It reportedly has more than 60,000 police personnel, including border guard personnel, and is under the control of the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
