Tajik judoka Temur Rahimov qualifies for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics

Tajik judoka Temur Rahimov has qualified for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, bringing the current number of Tajik athletes who qualified for the Tokyo Olympics to five, according to the Tajikistan Judo Federation.

Temur Rahimov finished 7th in the 100kg weight category at the World Judo Championships Seniors Hungary 2021, which took place in Hungary from June 6 to June 13.

Temur Rahimov reportedly ranks 21st on the world ranking list.    

Temur Rahimov (born July 8, 1997) is also the bronze medallist of the 2019 Judo Grand Prix Marrakesh. 

To-date, five Tajik athletes have qualified for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics: Bahodur Usmonov (boxing); Shabbos Nematulloyev (boxing); Gulsumbi Sharipova (athletics); Komronshoh Ustopiriyon (judo); and Temur Rahimov (judo).

Meanwhile, a source within the Tajikistan Judo Federation says Somon Mahmadbekov (73kg) and Akmal Murodov (81kg) also have good chance to represent Tajikistan at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Somon Mahmadbekov won gold medal finishing first in the 73kg category at the World U-21 Judo Championships that was held in Marrakesh, Morocco, and bronze medal at the Osaka Grand Slam 2019, finishing third in the 73kg weight category.  Besides, he won silver medal for Tajikistan at the 2021 Asian Judo Championships, finishing second in the 73kg weight category.
