Governors of Tajik and Kyrgyz border regions reach an agreement on water issues

The governor of the Tajik northern province of Sughd Rajabboy Ahmadzoda today morning met with the governor of the Kyrgyz Batken region Abdikarim Alimbayev to discuss cooperation.

The meeting was also attended by senior representatives of law enforcement agencies and water management departments of the two countries and they managed to reach an understanding on a number of controversial issues. 

Muzaffar Yunusov, a spokesman for Sughd governor, says the parties, in particular, discussed a number of issues related to border disputes and reached an agreement on some issues. 

Thus, the parties agreed to use water in accordance with the schedule approved by both parties.

It was decided that there will be no permission for any construction in the disputed areas without the consent of the parties.

The parties also agreed to contribute to peaceful life in border areas, Yunusov said.
