Completion of GGP Project in Tursunzoda city supported by the Government of Japan for a total amount of USD 90,460

Dushanbe, On September 20, 2021 H.E. Mr. MIYASHITA Takayuki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Tajikistan, together with Mr. Parviz AKRAMZODA, Chairperson of Tursunzoda city, attended a handover ceremony of the Project for Construction of School No.81 in Saidali Tabarov Village, Qaratogh Jamoat, Tursunzoda City. The ceremony was also attended by local officials, parents, students and community members.

The project has been implemented by the Local Executive Authority of Tursunzoda city and funded by the Government of Japan through the scheme of “Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects (GGP)”. The GGP grant with total amount of USD 90,460 was efficiently used for improvement of educational environment and boosting of students’ enrollment. The newly constructed school consists of eight classrooms. It can now accommodate roughly 400 schoolchildren with significantly improved learning environment.

During the ceremony, Mr. MIYASHITA made the following remarks: “It is my great pleasure to handover 8 brand-new classrooms to Tabarov village today, to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the State Independence of Tajikistan. I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate all the schoolchildren, parents, teachers and members of the community on the completion of these new classrooms. Education is one of our priority areas of Japan-Tajik bilateral cooperation. It will bring well-being to every child and family, but in longer term, these children will be definitely a driving-force for the national development of Tajikistan. Today I am very much delighted to witness the successful completion of our joint efforts with the Mayor of Tursunzoda city. I hope the classrooms will be maintained properly and be used by the schoolchildren of next generation.” Mr. Parviz AKRAMZODA expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their support.

The handover ceremony marks the expansion of contribution of the Government of Japan in promoting quality education in Tajikistan. The Government of Japan is dedicated to continuing its support for creating a better society for all people and committed to working together with the people of Tajikistan.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in addressing development needs in the areas such as education, health, water supply and the environment. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. As of today, GGP has supported 434 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 35.5 million has been provided since 1996.
