Japan’s GGP Project improves medical equipment of central hospital in Asht district

On Wednesday October 6, Japan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan Takayuki Miyashita and Asht district chairman Zarif Mirdado attended the handover ceremony of successful completion of the Project for Improvement of Medical Equipment of Central Hospital in Asht District.

Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe says the project was implemented within the framework of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).  For equipping the hospital, a US$90,000 grant was provided to the Central Hospital in Asht District.

Prior to the project implementation, the hospital reportedly faced difficulties due to a lack of medical equipment such as digital X ray system. With the completion of the project, people in the area can access to improved medical equipment in central hospital.

During the ceremony, Mr. Miyashita made the following remarks, “It is my great pleasure to hand over the digital X-ray system to the Central Hospital today.  X-ray diagnosis is a fundamental technology and contributes to   proper treatment in every part of the world. I am sure this brand-new X-ray equipment in front of us will help the doctors more accurate and efficient diagnosis, which will definitely contribute to quick recovery of patients.  I hope the equipment will be maintained properly in this hospital and will be used for many years to come.”

The Government of Japan is dedicated to continuing its support for creating a better society for all people and committed to working together with the people of Tajikistan.

Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) is a scheme within Japan’s Official Development Assistance. GGP in particular implements grassroots-level projects in various sectors throughout Tajikistan.  Recipients of GGP grants include local governments, educational and medical institutions, and NGOs. As of today, GGP has supported 434 projects in Tajikistan, for which US$ $35.5 million has been allocated since 1996.
