On Tuesday October 5, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqi Zavqizoda met with Katarzhina Zaidel, Executive Director of the World Bank Group for Tajikistan, and Peter Trabinsky, Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Tajikistan.

According to the press center of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT), Zavqizoda welcomed the guests to Tajikistan and thanked them for representing the economic interests of the Republic of Tajikistan in both organizations.

During the meeting, the sides reportedly discussed the results of socioeconomic development and existing trends, measures taken by the Government of Tajikistan to prevent the impact of possible risks on the national economy, as well as the issue of increasing the volume of financing of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund to priority sectors of the country.

The group's executive directors announced the results of GDP development at the level of 8.7 percent, the MoEDT press center says.

Zavqizoda reportedly appealed to the executive directors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund with a request to help increase financial support for sectors of the national economy, as well as to provide technical assistance to strengthen the system of macroeconomic modeling and forecasting, which was met with satisfaction.

At the end of the meeting, the sides expressed their readiness to further expand cooperation in the areas of reducing or preventing the impact of possible risks on the spheres of the national economy and maintaining macroeconomic stability.

It is to be noted that Tajikistan now owes a total of 500 million U.S. dollars to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
