Central Asia’s nations, India resolve to step up ties in defense, connectivity, commerce

New Delhi hosted the 3rd India – Central Asia Dialogue on December 19 and it was attended by attended by the foreign ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. 

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the foreign ministers discussed ways to strengthen this format of cooperation, expand trade and economic collaboration and inter-regional connectivity between India and Central Asia.

In his statement delivered at the meeting, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin reportedly focused on the need for joint cooperation to ensure economic and investment development of big potential and great value.

Muhriddin noted that Tajikistan attaches significance to further development of the Dialogue between India and Central Asia.

In this context, possible cooperation in implementation of large projects in infrastructure, transport, green economy, digitalization and other areas of mutual interest for the expansion of export potential and opportunities was emphasized.

Indian media reports say the dialogue discussed further strengthening trade, connectivity and development cooperation between the two sides besides exchanging views on regional and international issues being of mutual interests, including the situation in Afghanistan.

At the end of the meeting, a Joint Statement on the Outcome of the Third India-Central Asia Dialogue was adopted.
