Rahmon derides the country’s educational system for poor work

Tajikistan’s electricity generation capacity will increase almost two times by 2030, President Emomali Rahmon noted on December 21 while delivering a statement at a joint meeting of both chambers of parliament.

He, in particular, noted that implementation of large projects aimed at construction and rehabilitating the power generating facilities will allow increasing the country’s total electricity generation capacity to 10,000 megawatt (MW) by 2030.

“This means the full achievement of one of the strategic goals – energy independence of the country,” the president said.

He further added that taking into account climate change problems and the necessity of development of green energy, the government must adopt the green energy development strategy until emend of 2022.

Energy independence is independence or autarky regarding energy resources, energy supply and/or energy generation by the energy industry.  Energy dependence, in general, refers to mankind's general dependence on either primary or secondary energy for energy consumption (fuel, transport, automation, etc.).

Current total capacity of the country’s energy sector is about 5,800 megawatt.

According to official statistical data, Tajikistan has generated more than 18.7 billion kWh of electricity over the first eleven months of this year, which 5.7 percent more than in the same period last year.

However, electricity rationing is usually imposed in Tajikistan in the autumn and winter, especially after a dry summer.  During these months, water levels are low and electricity consumption rises.  Residents of rural areas experience extensive electricity shortages during the winter.
