The bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Iran reportedly doubled last year

Tajikistan and Iran have discussed issues related to prospects of further expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation.

Prospects of economic cooperation between the two countries were discussed at a meeting of the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqi Zavqizoda and Iran’s Ambassador to Tajikistan Mohammad Taghi Saberi that took place on February 9.

During the meeting, it was noted that the two-way trade between Tajikistan and Iran last year valued at 121 million U.S. dollars, which was two times more compared to 2020.

The parties reportedly agreed to make full use of available opportunities in connection with the development of a roadmap to increase the bilateral trade turnover to 500 million U.S. dollars and the launch of joint ventures in free economic zones (FEZs) in Tajikistan.

During the meeting, Zavqi Zavqizoda, in particular, noted that thanks to the wise and far-sighted policy of the leaders of the two countries relations between the two countries have reached a qualitatively new level.

For his part, Ambassador Saberi called on the Tajik Minister of Economic Development and Trade to visit free economic zones, including “Chabahar” and industrial cities in the provinces of Qazvin, Mashhad and Khorasan, to study Iran's experience in this area.

At the end of the meeting, the sides expressed their readiness to expand mutually beneficial cooperation and implement the identified issues.

IRNA says Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin said on February 2 that Dushanbe always wants to expand bilateral relations with Tehran.

Regarding Tehran-Dushanbe's future relations in 2022, Muhriddin reportedly stated that the recent visit of the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Tajikistan focused mainly on relations and the renewal of a foreign policy of the two states towards each other which caused more development of bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, commercial, technical and cultural fields.

Pointing to the level of relations between Iran, Tajikistan, he reportedly highlighted that Tajikistan has always wanted to expand bilateral relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and strives to further strengthen and expand cooperation.

As it had been reported earlier, President Raisi said on January 25 during a live interview with the Iranian broadcasters that as a result of the agreements reached during his visit to Tajikistan, the economic and trade relations between the two countries have tripled.
