As of January 1, 2022, total wage arrears in Tajikistan, taking into account the previous years, have amounted to more than 36.6 million somonis (equivalent to 3.2 million U.S. dollars), according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
Thus, arrears that accumulated in the country last year amounted to 9.8 million somonis (equivalent to 870,000 US dollars).
Meanwhile, compared to 2020, total wage arrears in Tajikistan during the last year decreased by 57 percent or 48.2 million somonis (equivalent to 4.3 million somonis).
As of January 1, 2021, total wage arrears in Tajikistan reportedly amounted to 84.8 million somonis.
After a sharp rise in 2020, the positive trend respecting wage arrears in the country has reportedly been observed since February last year.
In the real economy, the highest wage arrears have bene reported in the mining sector – 14.6 million somonis, processing industry – 6.6 million somonis, and the construction sector – 5 million somonis.
These sectors account for more than 70 percent of the total amount of the wage arrears in the country.
According to official statistics, the current average monthly wage in Tajikistan has been 1,812 somonis (equivalent to 160 US dollars) as of January 1, 2022.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Labor, Migration and Employment of the Population, Ms. Shirin Amonzoda, told reporters in Dushanbe on February 9 that an average monthly in Tajikistan rose 10.8 percent or 148.3 somonis in a year to December 31, 2021, reaching 1,524.4 somonis.
The current minimum monthly wage in all sectors of the country's economy is 400.00 somonis (equivalent to 35 US dollars).
