Tajik border seriously wounded in the latest shootout along the Tajik-Kyrgyz border dies

Tajik border guard who was seriously wounded in the latest shootout along the Tajik-Kyrgyz border Tuesday evening died in a hospital the same day.

Sergeant Zoir Saidumarov was buried in his native village of Mahrami Hotam in the Dousti district of Khatlon province today noon.

An official source with the Dousti district administration says representatives of local authorities and border unit, in which the deceased served, attended the funeral ceremony. 

Zoir Saidumarov was reportedly called to serve in the spring 2020 and he was supposed to retire from active duty in the spring this year.  

The shootout between Tajik and Kyrgyz border guards occurred Tuesday evening near the Khistevarz jamoat in the Bobojon-Ghafourov district of the Tajik northern province of Sughd. 

The 27-year-old Sergeant Zoir Saidumarov was seriously wounded in the shootout.  He reportedly had  gunshot wounds to the abdomen and chest.

In an informal conversation with reporters, Sughd governor Rajabboy Ahmadzoda said the incident was caused by misunderstanding between two Tajik and Kyrgyz border guards.  But he did not specify what exactly the border guards did not share.
