Rahmon inaugurates gold and silver refinery in Ayni district

Asia-Plus

During his 4-day working visit to the northern province of Sughd, Tajik President has inaugurated a gold and silver refinery in Ayni district.

The inauguration took place via video conferencing yesterday, the last day of Rahmon’s visit to the Sughd province.

The enterprise has been built by TBEA Dushanbe Mining Industry Ltd, which is an affiliate of China’s Tebian Electric Apparatus Stock Co. Ltd (TBEA), in the Kumarghi Bolo (Upper Kumargh) area, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

The inauguration ceremony reportedly took place in Guliston City and TBEA CEO Zhang Xin joined Tajik leader in symbolically pressing buttons.

The Tajik president’s official website says the enterprise with an annual capacity of 4 tons of gold and 1 ton of silver has been built on an area of 45.2 hectares, and the project cost is 4 million U.S. dollars.

Currently, 30 persons work at this enterprise.

Recall, the Chinese company started mining gold at the Kumarghi Bolo and Duobai Sharqi (Eastern Duoba) deposits in 2019.

Tajik government granted licenses to develop two gold deposits in the country to TBEA in exchange for construction of a new combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Dushanbe.

Under the reached agreements, TBEA reportedly has the right to develop the deposits until it recovers expenses made on construction of the Dushanbe-2 CHP plant.

After that, new agreements on development of these deposits will be concluded with the company under other conditions.

According to expert estimates, one ton of these deposits’ ore contains more than two grams of gold.

The Kumarghi Bolo deposit has possible gold reserves of 51 tons and the Duobai Sharqi deposit has possible gold reserves of 74.7 tons.
