Multiple deadly bomb blasts rocked Afghanistan yesterday, and there were attacks on schools earlier this week.
Afghanistan’s Khaama Press says Islamic State (IS) terror group has claimed responsibility for the explosions in four different Afghan cities that killed over 40 civilians and wounded more than eighty more.
The worst attack targeted worshippers in a Shiite mosque in the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif.
Khaama press reports that the IS terror group in a statement that explosives were set in a bag inside the mosque were blown up from afar.
According to TOLOnews, the head of the provincial department of security, Mohammad Asif Waziri, said that the blast was due to explosives placed inside the mosque.
“I can only say that the blast was due to explosives. Unfortunately, 25 people were martyred and wounded. Around 10 people were martyred, and 15 others were wounded,” he told TOLOnews in an interview.
However, some sources said 31 people were killed and 87 were wounded, TOLOnews noted.
Pajhwok Afghan News says at least 11 people were killed and 30 others injured in a blast at a mosque in Mazar-e Sharif.
In another explosion in the northern Kunduz province, four people were killed and eight more wounded after a planted bomb exploded near a car of mechanics working for the Taliban, Khaama Press reports. .
In the capital Kabul, two planted bombs wounded two children while that in the eastern Nangarhar province killed four Taliban members, according to Khaama Press.
Experts note that this is a serious issue for the Taliban because they promised security for the Afghan people. That's their one and only claim to legitimacy. And if they can't provide security, it's unclear what else they're providing in terms of governance.
