Tajikistan and Turkey have signed the Military Frame Agreement.
Turkish media reports say Turkish Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar yesterday welcomed Tajik Minister of Defense Sherali Mirzo, who was in Turkey as an official guest, with a military ceremony at the Ministry of National Defense.
After Tajikistan's Defense Minister General Mirzo saluted the Ceremonial Squad, the two Ministers first had a tete a tete and then chaired the meeting between delegations.
During the meeting, the parties discussed bilateral and regional defense and security as well as cooperation in the defense industry, Railly News said, citing a statement released by the Turkish Defense Ministry.
Anadolu Agency (AA) says that emphasizing the common belief, historical and cultural ties between the two countries, Akar said Turkey is ready to share its experience on border security and counterterrorism issues.
The necessity of increasing military education cooperation between the two countries was emphasized, according to Railly News.
After the meeting between the delegations, the Military Framework Agreement between Turkey and Tajikistan was signed by Sherali Mirzo, Minister of Defense of Tajikistan and Hulusi Akar, Minister of National Defense of Turkey.
Recall, Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Turkey Ashrafjon Gulov met in Ankara with Turkey’s Defense Minister Hulusi Akar on January 18 this year to discuss increased bilateral cooperation on defense.
Besides, Turkish defense minister was in Tajikistan in July last year. On July 1, Akar was received by his Tajik counterpart Colonel-General Sherali Mirzo with a military ceremony at Tajikistan’s Defense Ministry.
Mirzo thanked Akar for visiting Tajikistan for the first time, as he highlighted the importance of further enhancing cooperation in the defense, security and defense sectors. He continued by saying that the two countries continue to successfully coordinate in international and regional institutions and support each other.
For his part, Akar, underlining important historical, cultural and religious ties between the two countries, said Tajikistan is an important partner for Turkey in Central Asia.
The Turkish Armed Forces, which consists of the General Staff, the Land Forces, the Naval Forces and the Air Forces, is the second largest standing military force in NATO, after the U.S. Armed Forces.
The Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Turkey established diplomatic relations on January 29, 1992.
Both are members of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), an Asian political and economic intergovernmental organization.
Tajik–Turkish relations are friendly and cooperative and underlined with a legal basis of more than 65 treaties and protocols which have been signed between two countries since 1991.
The Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA) in Tajikistan plays an important role in the development of bilateral relations between the two countries. Dozens of projects were implemented in Tajikistan by this Agency.
