Presidential Reserve Fund allocates TJS855,000 to provide one-off aids to veterans of World War II

President Emomali Rahmon has ordered the allocation of 855,000 somonis (TJS) from the Presidential Reserve Fund to provide one-off aids to veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, according to the Tajik president official website.

An official source within the Tajik president’s press service says only 57 veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 are estimated to be still alive in Tajikistan as of May 6, 2022, and they will receive 15,000 somonis (equivalent to about 1,200 U.S. dollars).

Last year, there were 98 veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 being estimated to be still alive in Tajikistan.

More than 270,000 residents of Tajikistan took part in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and more than 100,000 of them died in battle.

64 of residents of Tajikistan were reportedly given the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.  Besides, 15 other Tajikistan’s residents were Full Holders of the Order of Glory.

Meanwhile, Fergana news agency on April 29 published the amount of lump-sum payments veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 living in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan will receive on the occasion of Victory Day.

In Kazakhstan, war veterans living in Nur-Sultan and Almaty will receive 1 million tenge (equivalent to 2,229 U.S. dollars) each, while war veterans living in Aktobe will receive 2 million tenge (equivalent to 4,459 U.S. dollars) each.

As of April 1, 2022, 387 veterans of the Great Patriotic War live in Kazakhstan.

Veterans of the Great Patriotic War living in Kyrgyzstan will receive 100.000 soms (equivalent to 1,209 U.S. dollars) each.

As of February 1, 2022, 107 veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 are estimated to be still alive in Kyrgyzstan.

In Uzbekistan, May 9 is celebrated as the Day of Memory and Honor.  On the eve of May 9, veterans of the World War II, former prisoners of concentration camp and survivors of the Nazi blockade of Leningrad will receive 15 million sums (equivalent to 1,339 U.S. dollars) each.

As of April 24, 2022, 236 veterans of the World War II live in Uzbekistan.

Victory Day marks the end of World War II in Europe, specifically the capitulation of Nazi forces to the Allies (the Soviet Union, United Kingdom, France, the United States and other principal Allied nations) on May 8, 1945.

In Russia and other countries of former Soviet Union, the day of Victory over Nazi Germany is celebrated on May 9, because when the German Instrument of Surrender actually entered into force (May 8, 1945 at 23:01 CET), it was already May 9 by Moscow time.  Post-Soviet countries have continued the tradition.
