Tajikistan has reportedly decreased imports of food products significantly over the first six months of this year.
“In January-June this year, Tajik significantly decreased imports of wheat, flour, rice, potatoes, tropical and subtropical fruits as well as various consumer goods,” Muhammadsaid Faizullozoda, the head of the Committee for Food Security, told reporters in Dushanbe on July 15.
According to him, Tajikistan has imported 356,000 tons of wheat over the first six months of this year, which is 19,000 tons fewer than in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, Tajikistan has reportedly increased sugar imports over the same six-month period.
“Over the first half of this year, Tajikistan has imported more than 87,000 tons sugar, which is 2,900 tons more than in the same period last year. Because of events in Russia and Ukraine, we have turned our attention to India and Pakistan,” Tajik official said, noting that today, “most of the sugar is imported from these countries.”
Faizullozoda also noted that Tajikistan has significantly increased exports of fresh and dried fruits over the same six-month period.
“In January-June this year, Tajikistan has exported 12,800 tons of fresh fruits (7,700 tons more compared to the same period last year) and more than 20,000 tons of dried fruits (8,000 tons ore than in the same period last year),” he said
According to data from the Committee for Food Security, 3,900 tons of meat products, 5,600 tons dairy products, 1.5 million chickens, about 8 million incubation eggs, 2,400 tons of fish products, about 330,000 tons of fodders and some other products passed phytosanitary control at the border over the first six months of this year.
