22 officially confirmed cases of HIV infection have been reported in Dushanbe over the first six months of this year, the Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population, Jamoliddin Abdullozoda, told reporters in Dushanbe on July 27.

According to him, these 22 HIV sufferers were detected during the medical examination of young people who were going to marry.

Over the reporting period, 39,038 people have undergone medical examination before getting married.

“374 people contracting hepatitis B, 84 people contracting hepatitis, 22 HIV sufferers, 15 people suffering from mental illness, and one case of syphilis have been identified among them,” Abdullozoda said.

He noted that those, who had been diagnosed with hepatitis, syphilis and mental illness, had undergone medical treatment, and appropriate medical certificates permitting marriage had been given to them.

The HIV suffers have been registered and placed under constant supervision of doctors, Abdullozoda said.

“Over the same six-month period, 130 pregnant women with HIV gave birth to children.   Currently, 94 pregnant women with HIV are under antenatal care.  Besides, 305 children born to HIV-infected mothers are also under the supervision of specialists,” the minister said.

According to him, the current number of officially confirmed HIV sufferers in the country is 10,586 people.

Recall, the Republican AIDS Center representatives told Asia-Plus on December 1, 2020 that as of October 1, 2020, 12,876 officially confirmed HIV sufferers have been reported in Tajikistan.
