Vegetable and fruit harvesting is under way in Tajikistan. To-date, Tajik farmers have reportedly produced more than one million tons of fruits and vegetables as of August 20, 2022.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), all categories of farms have produced about 984,000 tons of vegetables to date, including 429,000 tons of onions, 198,000 tons of tomatoes, 102,000 tons of carrots, 43,000 tons of cabbages, and about 104,000 tons of other vegetables (bell peppers, eggplants, beets and some others).
An official source at a MoA says the average vegetable yield in the republic amounted to 30.8 tons per hectare.
According to him, Tajik farmers have produced about 450,000 tons of melons and gourds this year so far with a yield of 29.6 tons per hectare.
Potato harvesting is under way in the country. All categories of farms have produced more than 243,000 tons of potatoes as of August 20, 2022.
Tajik farmers have produced about 140,000 tons of fruits and 32,000 tons of grapes as of August 20, 2022.
As far as cereals are concerned, all categories of farms have produced 853,000 tons of cereals, including 697,000 tons of wheat, as of August 20.
According to the statistical data from the MoA, crops this year have been planted on a total area of 611,800 hectares, with 60 percent of them allocated for cultivating cereals, vegetables and melons and gourds.
Fruit trees have reportedly been planted on an area of more than 180,000 hectares.
Last year, gross agricultural output in forecast prices reportedly amounted to 36.4 billion somonis. This year, they want to bring this figure to 39.4 billion somonis.
