IMF plans to focus on Tajikistan’s macroeconomic perspectives for 2023, says Tajik central bank

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission plans to focus on Tajikistan’s macroeconomic perspectives for 2023, the press center of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) says. 

The Tajik financial regulator notes that this was discussed on December 5 in Dushanbe at a meeting of NBT head Hokim Kholiqzoda with visiting IMF mission led by Matthew Gertner. 

“Mr. Gertner said the IMF plans to focus on the macroeconomic perspectives for 2023, measures to improve the macroeconomic, and priority reforms needed to generate high economic growth, says a statement released by the NBT.  

He reportedly also spoke about bilateral cooperation between the IMF and Tajikistan, especially the NBT, and noted that this year, good economic performance has been achieved in many in many important areas of the country. 

“NBT head, for his part, noted that the NBT will continue its policy of reforms,” says the NBT press center.  

“In this regard, we offer technical cooperation with the IMF in such important areas as monetary policy, statistics and payment balance, programming and financial policy, development digital financial services, and development of payment systems,” NBT head added, according to the NBT press center.  

During the meeting, the parties reportedly discussed issues related to further expansion of cooperation in mitigating or preventing influence of potential risks on the national economy, maintaining the stability of macroeconomic indicators and resuming negotiations of the IMF new program for Tajikistan. 

The IMF mission will stay in Tajikistan until December 16 and will hold talks with heads and senior representatives of the economic cluster ministries and agencies.
