Tajikistan, Saudi Arabia to speed up the process of signing of a counter narcotics agreement

Date:

Tajikistan has reportedly asked Saudi Arabia to speed up the process of signing of a government-to-government counter-narcotics agreement.

The Drug Control Agency of Tajikistan (DCA) says this issue was discussed at a meeting of DCA director Habibullo Vohidzoda with Saudi Ambassador to Tajikistan Walid Abdulrahman Al-Reshaidan that took place here on December 6.

An official source within Tajikistan’s counter narcotics agency says the document provides for cooperation between the two countries in combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and chemical precursors.

Saudi diplomat reportedly called this issue important expressed readiness to facilitate the consideration of this issue.

Tajik drug control kingpin, for his part, briefed Saudi diplomat on the counternarcotics situation in the country and measures taken by the Tajik government to combat drug trafficking.

Recall, Vohidzoda told reporters in Dushanbe on August 5 that Tajikistan law enforcement authorities have seized 2,578.145 kilograms of narcotic drugs over the first six months of this year, which is 882.5 kilograms more than in the same period last year.

Tajik drug control kingpin added at the time that more than 3,000 kilograms of Afghan drugs have been seized in Tajikistan since August last year, when the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan.
