Tajikistan’s National Olympic Committee about three main sports competitions for Tajik athletes in 2023

Asia-Plus

A meeting of the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan (NOC) took place December 28.

According to the NOC press center, one of issues on the meeting’s agenda was participation of Tajik athletes in the main international competitions next year.

As it was noted at the meeting, there will be three main international competitions next year in which Tajik athletes will participate, namely Children of Asia International Sports Games, the Asian Games, and the 6th Asia Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Thailand

Children of Asia International Sports Games

The 2nd Winter Children of Asia International Sports Games will run from February 23 to March 5, 2023 in Kemerovo, Novokuznetsk, Mezhdurechensk and Tashtagolsky Municipal District.  The Games are expected to feature young athletes from 20 Asian countries, Russian regions, and Belarus.

Children of Asia International Sports Games are held every four years. The Games were first organized in 1996 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the modern Olympic Movement by the initiative of the first President of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) Mr. Mikhail Nikolayev.

Over the past 25 years, thousands of young athletes have become participants of Children of Asia Games from more than 30 Asian countries. Athletes who took part in Children of Asia Games of different editions have become champions and prizewinners of Olympic Games, championships, world and continental tournaments.

Until 2019 Children of Asia Games were always held exclusively for summer sports. However, since the 1st Winter Games in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk the Games are divided into summer and winter editions.

The Asian Games

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) noted in July that China is set to host the postponed Asian Games in September 2023.  The multi-sport event had been due to take place between September 10 and 25 this year, but was delayed in response to Chinese COVID-19 restrictions.

The 19th edition of the Asian Games will now be held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8 next year.

The OCA says the new dates were chosen to avoid “conflict with other major international sporting events”.

The 6th Asia Indoor and Martial Arts Games

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) announced in October 2021 that the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Thailand next March have been postponed to 2023.

The 6th AIMAG was due to take place from March 10-19, 2022 in Bangkok and Chonburi province but has been put back to November 17-26, 2023.

The decision was made by the OCA after receiving a request for postponement from the Thailand National Olympic Committee.
