Tajik leader condemns terrorist attack in Peshawar, extends condolences to the families of the victims

Date:

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday extended condolences to the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif over deadly bombing in Peshawar.

The message of condolences reads: “The tragic news of the death and injury of a large number of citizens of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan as a result of a suicide terrorist act in one of the mosques of Peshawar has greatly saddened us.

“We strongly condemn this oppressive act of terrorism, we express our deep sympathy and condolences to you, the relatives of the deceased and all the brotherly people of Pakistan, and we wish for the full recovery of all the injured.”

Mass media reports say at least 60 people, including 27 police official, were killed on Monday as a suicide bomber blew himself up inside a crowded mosque in Peshawar.

The attacker reportedly appeared to have passed through several barricades manned by security forces to get into the “Red Zone” compound that houses police and counter-terrorism offices in the northwestern city of Peshawar.

CNN reports that Pakistan authorities say an investigation is underway, and have not confirmed either claim.
