Another aid has кузкщеувдн been distributed to the avalanche-hit families in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

Thus, 48 tons of coals were distributed to the avalanche-hit families in GBAO’s capital, Khorog, on February 24, according to the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan.

Ms. Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee, says the families received 1,500 kilograms of coal each.

It means that coal was distributed to 32 families.

Before that, a convoy of truck loaded with food products, warm clothes and essential goods had arrived in Khorog.  The assistance, in particular, included 18 tons of food products.

“On February 24, warm clothes, shoes, food products, beds and bed clothes were distributed to 66 families,” the Emergencies spokeswoman said.

On February 23, GBAO senior officials visited the avalanche-hit families in Sadvadg and Khaspo villages in Vanj district, who lost their children in natural disasters.  They received 40,000 somonis and one-rime food aid each.

Families of those killed by avalanches in the GBAO reportedly are receiving financial aid in the amount of 40,000 somonis each and people injured by avalanches are receiving 10,000 somonis in financial aid each.

As it had been reported earlier, avalanches in the GBAO claimed at least 18 lives as of the morning of February 18, including 15 in Khorog, one in Shugnan district and two in Vanj district.  The dead reportedly are known to include two children, three schoolchildren and nine students.

The Emergencies Committee warns that warmer temperatures have increased the risk of further avalanches and mudslides in the country and advises people not to travel to mountain areas unnecessarily.
