Torrential rain Tuesday night (April 3) caused a number of mudflows in Panj district of the southern province of Khatlon.

The press center of the Khatlon regional administration says the mudflows have partially damaged more than 100 houses in Pakhtakor village, jamaot named after Kaboud Saifiddinov.

Khatlon governor visited the village and ordered to set up a commission to assess the actual damage caused by the mudflows and clear the damaged houses of slurry.

The governor reportedly also ordered to provide assistance to the mudflow-affected residents and provide them will all the needed resources.

As the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan previously reported, 15 households in Selga and Pakhtakor villages, located near mudflow ducts, had been evacuated to safer places due to the mudflows.

The Emergencies Committee warns that the risk of further mudflows, landslides and rockfalls in the western part of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) and foothills and mountainous areas of Sughd and Khatlon provinces and districts subordinate to the center remain high and advises not to travel to the mountain areas unnecessarily.
