Tajikistan has all necessary conditions for accelerated industrialization, says industry minister

Asia-Plus

Tajikistan has all necessary conditions for accelerated industrialization, which is the country’s fourth strategic goal, the Minister of Industry and New  Technologies Sherali Kabir said on April 18 while delivering a statement at ceremony of completion of the  Innovation Policy Program’s project.

“We have all the conditions for this and the country's existing target base allows quickly and efficiently achieving the set goals,” the minister noted.

He assured that “the country’s industrial sector has really grown over the past two years and it will double in five years.”

Despite the results achieved, the minister considers it necessary to create a more favorable investment climate and entrepreneurial environment, improve the tax legislation and increase the country's export potential.

According to Sherali Kabir, another issue that needs to be resolved is the training of personnel for the country’s industrial sector.

He called the staffing situation critical, noting that it is not possible to get higher education in the field of industry in Tajikistan.

Kabir explained that Tajikistan’s higher educational institutions do not have faculties for training specialists for the industrial sector.

The minister concluded that accelerated industrialization will give a powerful impetus to further development of the country’s economy.

The Government of Tajikistan has prioritized accelerated industrialization, innovation, and digitalization announcing the 2022-2026 Years of Industrial Development.

The National Development Strategy of Tajikistan for the period to 2030, in particular, notes that the rational use of human and natural capital, and strengthening institutional capacity of development towards better efficiency, diversification and competitiveness of the national economy, will determine the industrial future development and ensure the transition from agrarian-industrial based economy to the industrial-agrarian based economy.  The increased share of industry in the structure of country's GDP provides for transition from agrarian-industrial based economy to the industrial-agrarian based economy;

According to official statistics, the share of industry in the structure of the country’s GDP last year was 17 percent, while the share of agriculture in the structure of the country’s GDP in 2022 was 24.6 percent.  A year earlier, these figures were 18.2 percent and 24.1 percent, respectively.
