A 36-year-old woman from Tajikistan Sayora Dusayeva has been convicted in Russia of killing a 50-year-old cook from Georgia, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service reported on July 13.

The tragedy took place in “Tbilisi’ café in the city of Mytishchi, the administrative center of Mytishchinsky district in Moscow oblast, on January 4.

The cook from Georgia reportedly played a bad joke on Sayora Dusayeva, who worked in that cafe as a dishwasher, and grabbed her buttocks.

The woman scolded the cook and soon the quarrel turned into a fight in the kitchen.  According to eyewitnesses, the cook attacked the woman and began to drag her by the hair.  Fighting back, the woman reportedly hit the man several times with a kitchen knife that fell into her hands.

The man died on the spot as a result of stab wounds.

The Mytishchi city court reportedly sentenced Sayora Dusayeva to 6½ years in prison on July 13.  She will serve her jail term in a general-regime penal colony.

The Tajik Embassy in Moscow said on July 13 that Dusayeva’s defense lawyer intends to file an appeal against the court’s verdict.

Tajik Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda on January 10 asked his Russian counterpart to approach objectively the investigation into the case opened against Dusayeva, who was forced to fight off an attack by the cook, who severely beat her, using physical violence and insults against her.
