Tajikistan and the United States have discussed issues of expansion of interbank relations for sustainability of Tajikistan’s financial system.
The press center of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) says these issues were discussed here on July 22 at a meeting of NBT head Hokim Kholiqzoda with U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan Manuel P. Micaller, Jr.
Tajikistan’s national financial regulator says that it was noted during the meeting that “there has been a significant increase in the main macroeconomic indicators and the banking system as well as stabilization of the inflation rate and the exchange rate of the national currency in Tajikistan in recent years.”
“Cooperation with the US Embassy has allowed the National Bank to implement two stages of the technical assistance program on the project, Increasing Financial Integrity and Strengthening Financial Stability and Inclusion in Tajikistan,” NBT’s press center says.
As a result of this cooperation, the issues related to increasing financial stability, expanding access to financial services, introducing the provisions of international financial reporting standards and assessing the quality of internal audit have reportedly been resolved.
“Currently, work is underway on the implementation of the third stage of the technical assistance aimed at enhancing monitoring, analysis and evaluation of key indicators of financial stability. This will help evaluate and take specific measures to mitigate risks in the financial system,” Tajikistan’s national financial regulators noted.
Besides, it was emphasized that bilateral consultations on the development of correspondent banking relations between the two countries are planned to be carried out in the near future.
