The total amount of Tajikistan's public debt as of July 1 of this year amounted to $3.6 billion, which is equal to 31.1% of the country's GDP, Finance Minister Fayziddin Kahhorzoda said at a press conference in Dushanbe on August 15.
In particular, he noted, $3.2 billion was foreign debt, and $400 million was domestic debt.
The Minister believes that the volume of public debt is at a fairly comfortable level. He stressed that in accordance with the public borrowing management strategy, the ratio of public debt at the level of 60% of GDP is considered critical.

According to the minister, the volume of the country's public debt in the first half of this year decreased by about $ 100 million due to a reduction in domestic debt.
He noted that the amount of external debt remained almost at the same level during the first half of the year.
"There will be changes (in external debt) next year, when we start signing loan agreements on Rogun," he said.
Earlier it was reported that in 2024, the government of Tajikistan plans to sign agreements to attract multimillion-dollar funds from international financial institutions to finance the Rogun project.
Kahhorzoda stressed that during the first half of this year, over $155 million was allocated to repay the state debt.
In particular, he noted, about 369 million somoni (about $34 million) were allocated for servicing the internal debt at the expense of budgetary funds, and more than $121 million was allocated for external debt.
