ADB will give Tajikistan money to improve the quality of medical services

Asia-Plus

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $500,000 technical assistance grant to prepare a follow-up investment project to strengthen healthcare in Tajikistan. The project is in the ADB's indicative project plan for 2024.

The Technical Assistance grant will prepare additional funding to expand the volume of the current grant of $32 million approved by the ADB in 2018 for the “Integrated Maternal and Child Health care” project. This project helps the Government of Tajikistan to improve medical services in the districts of Faizabad, Rasht and Shamsiddini Shokhin.

The proposed additional funding will expand the coverage of quality health services in three more pilot districts – Darvaz, Dangara and Aini.

It will also continue to support the development of a national policy in the field of hospital financing and the development of human resources for healthcare.

The technical assistance grant will prepare a technical design, a detailed estimate, an analysis, as well as support preliminary actions and the launch of the implementation of the proposed additional funding.

Tajikistan joined the ADB in 1998. For 25 years, ADB has supported a wide range of sectors of the country, from strategic road and energy infrastructure to healthcare, skills development, food security, climate change and finance. During this time, the country has received a total of $2.5 billion in assistance, including about $2 billion in grants.

ADB's partnership strategy with Tajikistan for 2021-2025 has three strategic priorities: structural reforms to improve the allocation and mobilization of resources, increasing labor productivity through human capital development, and promoting higher living standards through investments in the economy.

The ADB was established in 1966, it includes 68 countries, 49 of which are located in the Asia-Pacific region.
