USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator for Asian Affairs Anjali Kaur visited one of the largest industrial enterprises "AZOT" in Khatlon as part of her visit to Tajikistan.

The General Director of the company, Umed Sharipov, showed Anjali Kaur the Control Center and told about the plant, its products and future opportunities.

Honum Anjali Kaur at a meeting with journalists spoke about the cooperation project between USAID and “AZOT”.

"Our project takes place within the framework of the food security initiative, which is mainly aimed at agriculture and training the population in various specialties to improve life. We all know that the fertilizer produced by “AZOT” is very important for the agricultural sphere. And from this point of view, we decided to help the company in training average specialists at the expense of young guys and girls who are out of work," she said.

Anjali Kaur also added that short-term training courses were organized for them in the company itself.

"Because training in the company itself gives you the opportunity to get an education and immediately practice and gain experience. Within the framework of this project, 160 local residents took courses and were employed at this enterprise," she said.

According to Umed Sharipov, graduates of the courses today work in different workshops of the plant, including in the workshop for providing electricity, laboratory, control center, etc.

Deputy General Director of “AZOT” for Technical Issues Bakhtiyor Saidov noted that the company had been idle for many years and lost many of its specialists, especially among the average technical staff.

"After the launch of the plant, we needed these specialists and we had to look for new personnel. And that's where USAID helped us. This organization supported our training project, organized courses. It is worth noting that today our company employs about 800 people. We are planning to launch a second production line and, in this case, additional labor will be required. We hope the project will make our task easier," he said.

Anjali Kaur came to Tajikistan to promote the U.S. – Republic development partnership and reaffirm the U.S. government's commitment to inclusive economic growth, food security, climate change and sustainable societies in the country.
