Tajik energy minister participates in “Central Asia + Japan” Ministerial Economic and Energy Dialogue

Asia-Plus

The Minister of Energy and water Resources of Tajikistan Daler Juma participated in the first meeting of Economy and Energy Ministers of the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue that took place in Tokyo, Japan on September 26.

According to Tajikistan’s Embassy in Tokyo, the parties discussed issues related to a Net-Zero society in Japan and Central Asia, policies for the energy transition as well as implementation of potential energy transition projects with participation of Japan.

Net zero refers to the balance between the amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) that's produced and the amount that's removed from the atmosphere. It can be achieved through a combination of emission reduction and emission removal.

The energy transition refers to the shift from reliance on non-renewable, fossil fuel-based energy sources to renewable, clean energy sources in order to mitigate the impacts of climate change and promote sustainability.

The Central Asia plus Japan dialogue is a political initiative between Japan and the Central Asian nations of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, with the goal to create “a new framework for cooperation, thereby elevating relations between Japan and Central Asia to a new level”.  The dialogue, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry, is also meant to serve as a forum to promote inter-regional cooperation.  Turkmenistan, maintaining its policy of neutrality, participates only as an observer.
