Rosatom Deputy Director-General Nikolay Spassky says the corporation is ready to discuss with Tajikistan the construction of a nuclear power plant of any size in the country

According to TASS, Rosatom Deputy Director General Nikolay Spassky told reporters on October 3 that Russia and Tajikistan are considering the possibilities of cooperation in the nuclear sector and technology.

"We are talking about nuclear medicine, geological exploration and production of minerals, rare earth metals, training of people and related areas such as digitalization," he said.

Spassky reportedly added that Rosatom is ready to discuss with Tajikistan the construction of a nuclear power plant of any size in the country.  "Of course, this is still thinking about the future – but if in the future, based on the enormous potential that has been created, based on the human relations that we have established with our Tajik colleagues, if the Tajik side shows interest in nuclear energy, in the construction of a nuclear power plant of large or small capacity of Russian design in Tajikistan <…> we will be happy. We have competencies and technologies, but most importantly we have the capital of human communication, partnership and friendship, which allows us to consider the most difficult and large-scale initiatives," he said.

Rosatom also known as Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, or Rosatom State Corporation, is a Russian state corporation headquartered in Moscow that specializes in nuclear energy, nuclear non-energy goods and high-tech products.

Established in 2007, the nonprofit organization comprises more than 350 enterprises, including scientific research organizations, a nuclear weapons complex, and the world's only nuclear icebreaker fleet.

The corporation is the largest electricity generating company in Russia, producing 215.746 TWh of electricity, 20.28% of the country's total electricity production.  The corporation ranks first in overseas NPP construction, responsible for 76% of global nuclear technology exports: 35 nuclear power plant units, at different stages of development, in 12 countries, as of December 2020.  Rosatom also manufactures equipment, produces isotopes for nuclear medicine, carries out research, and conducts material studies. It also produces supercomputers and software as well as different nuclear and non-nuclear products.
