Emomali Rahmon holds talks with Vladimir Putin in Bishkek to discuss cooperation

President Emomali Rahmon met with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on the sidelines of a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State. 

The Tajik president’s official website says the parties discussed in details state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation, strategic partnership and allied interaction between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation.  

Emomali Rahmon reportedly noted with satisfaction the active development of interstate contacts this year and positive dynamics of interaction between the two countries in all areas.  

The heads of the states welcomed the positive dynamics of the two-way trade between the two countries signing of appropriate agreements between the business circles, agreement on launching joint ventures in Tajikistan and implementation of investment projects aimed at promoting industrial cooperation between the two countries.  

In the course of the talks, Rahmon and Putin reportedly discussed issues related to further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia in financial, investment, energy, agrarian and other areas and  pointed to the necessity of development of interaction between relevant agencies active in the migration sphere.  

The presidents noted the high level of educational, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries and welcomed the beginning of construction of the Center for Talented Children and Mayakovsky Russian Drama Theater in Dushanbe.  

The parties reportedly also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.  

Meanwhile, Kremlin’s press service reported that Putin told Emomali Rahmon at the beginning of the meeting that “everything is developing like we planned.”  “Colleagues are working, the governments are working. Security issues are being addressed," Russian president was quoted as saying.  

For his part, Rahmon reportedly said he intended to discuss current state and prospects of relations of two countries, international and regional issues. "Cooperation between our countries is positive in all areas. Russia remains a leading trade partner of Tajikistan, cultural ties are growing. Russia is an important strategic partner and ally of Tajikistan," Rahmon was quoted as saying. 

Russia’s TASS reported that the agenda included regional security issues, first of all, the situation along Tajikistan's common border with Afghanistan, and issues of functioning of the Russian military base in Tajikistan.
