Tajikistan, Kazakhstan vow to boost bilateral cooperation in information technology sector

Asia-Plus

Tajikistan and Kazakhstan have vowed to boost bilateral cooperation in the information technology sector.

The press center of the communications service agency of Tajikistan says the countries have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation.

The document was reportedly signed here on December 22 by Beg Sabour, Head of the Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan, and Dmitry Moun, Deputy Head of the Council of Joint-Stock Company (JSC) National Information Technologies of Kazakhstan.

During a meeting, the parties reportedly discussed ways of cooperation in the information technology sector, issues of carrying out joint events and some issues being of mutual interest.

Communications Service press center says Beg Sabour briefed members of the Kazakh delegation on potential of mutually beneficial cooperation and expressed hope that the beginning of cooperation with JSC National Information Technologies of Kazakhstan will contribute to appearance of new opportunities for cooperation on introducing e-government in both countries.

In this context, the parties reportedly discussed cooperation in exchanging experience on development of e-government.

The meeting ended with the signing of the mentioned MoU.  The communications service agency’s press center says the document was signed for the purpose of expanding the bilateral cooperation in the information technology sector, in particular in the field of introduction and development of the e-government.

This step is reportedly “significant in the context of development of e-government’s infrastructure in Tajikistan and it will strengthen the existing information and communication infrastructureю

It is to be noted that Kazakhstan continues to upgrade existing infrastructure and integrate the information and communications technologies (ICT) into projects implemented in different economic sectors.  To attract foreign investment into the sector, Kazakhstan officially lifted restrictions on foreign ownership of telecommunications companies in 2022, with the exception of the country’s main communications operator, Kazakhtelecom.

Established in 2000, JSC National Information Technologies of Kazakhstan (JSC NIT) is an operator of the information and communication infrastructure of the «electronic government» of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

JSC NIT performs the following functions: 1) operator of e-Gov Information and Communication Infrastructure; 2) operator of a single information system for accounting of technical inspection undergoing by vehicles and trailers thereto; 3) national operator (national administrator) of the system of electronic vehicle passports (vehicle chassis passports) and electronic passports of self-propelled vehicles and other types of equipment; 4) operator of data from control metering devices in the production and turnover of petroleum products; and 5) operator of data from control metering devices in the production of ethyl alcohol and alcoholic beverages.
