Tajikistan, Turkiye expand economic ties through MoU on public finance management cooperation

Asia-Plus

Tajik Minister of Finance Faiziddin Qahhorzoda, heading a high-level delegation of Tajikistan, visited Turkiye on January 3-5 to discuss issues related to strengthening the long-term strategic partnership and cooperation between the two countries in public finance management and health system enhancement, the press center of the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan (MoF) said.

The delegation members reportedly included deputy finance minister and heads of MoF departments.

The discussions during the visit focused on key areas of cooperation, including the implementation of reforms in the public financial management system.  Special attention was given to reforms in education and healthcare, carried out in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Bank.  Other topics included the digitalization of public services, the development of non-cash payment methods, and the advancement of the state electronic payment system.

The Tajik delegation also had an opportunity to learn about the system of public services “Electronic Government” of Turkiye and explored Turkiye's expertise in developing non-cash payments and the state electronic payment system.

Highlighting the significance of this visit, a high-level bilateral meeting between Mr. Faiziddin Qahhorzoda and Mr. Mehmet Simsek, Minister of Treasury and Finance of the Republic of Turkiye, took place in Ankara on January 3.

The meeting reportedly aimed to discuss partnership avenues and formalize commitments through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).  The MoU signifies the pledge to collaborate and extend mutual support in the domains of public finance management and health system strengthening.

The memorandum reportedly underscores the commitment of Tajikistan and Turkey to fostering mutual development and cooperation in various crucial sectors, ultimately contributing to the economic growth and well-being of both nations.

The signing of the MoU reportedly holds great importance as it aligns strongly with the Second Public Finance Management Modernization Project (PFMMP II), which is a World Bank operation in Tajikistan.  Moreover, it complements the tireless efforts of the World Health Organization (WHO) to strengthen the healthcare system in Tajikistan in the framework of the implementation of the EU-funded Health Development Program in Tajikistan for 2021-2025.

The MoF notes that this regulatory act will pave the way for an expanded and more efficient partnership between the two countries, benefiting public financial management initiatives on both sides.
