Tajikistan, Qatar sign nine cooperation documents in Doha

Nine cooperation documents were signed in Qatar’s capital, Doha, on January 22 within the framework of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon’s state visit to Qatar. 

The following documents were signed in the presence of President Emomali Rahmon and Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani: 

 

  • A memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation between the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan and the General Directorate of Civil Defense of the Interior Ministry of Qatar in the field management of emergency situations. 
  • The first program of actions in the field of higher education and scientific research under the Agreement on cooperation in the field of education, higher education and scientific research for 2024/2025-2025/2026-2026/2027 academic years. 
  • The program of cooperation between the Foreign Ministries of Tajikistan and Qatar for 2024-2026.  
  • A MoU on cooperation in the field of museum development between the State Enterprise (SE) The National Museum at the President’s Executive Administration of Tajikistan and the Qatar Museums Directorate.      
  • A joint statement on expansion of cultural cooperation between the Ministries of Culture of Tajikistan and Qatar.
  • A MoU on cooperation between the Financial Monitoring Department of the National Bank of Tajikistan and the Department of Financial and Administrative Affairs of Qatar on sharing financial intelligence information related to money laundry and terrorism financing. 
  • A government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and Qatar on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion. 
  • A MoU on cooperation between the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan and the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities in Qatar in the field of charitable and humanitarian activities.
  • A MoU on cooperation between the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan and the Qatar Free Zone Authority.

 

Tajik president’s visit to Qatar is a testament to the strengthening relations between the two nations.  One of the highlights of the state visit was President Rahmon’s meeting with the Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development.  The meeting centered on Tajikistan’s hydropower potential and the mutual benefits that could arise from it.  Rahmon underscored Tajikistan’s commitment to green energy development and proposed the creation of a Joint Economic and Investment Fund to attract financing for priority projects.  Both parties expressed optimism that these proposals would bolster trade and economic relations between Tajikistan and Qatar.
