Tajikistan increases livestock production

As of February 1, 2024, gross agricultural product from all categories of farms was 1.0166 billion somonis (in current prices) and increased by 4.5 percent compared to same date of 2023, including animal husbandry – 1.0082 billion somonis (4.4-percent increase) and crop growing products – 8.4 million somonis ()21.8-percent increase, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan. 

In January 2024, the share of population’s householders in the gross agricultural product was 74.5 percent, the share of public farming units – 18.8 percent, and the share of dehqon (peasant) farms – 6.7 percent.).  

In January, 2024, all categories of farms produced 483 tons of vegetables or 19.9 percent more than in January last year; 15,270 tons of meat (in live weight) or 10.4 percent more than in January last year; 65,758 tons of milk, or 5.0 percent more than in January last year.

Meanwhile, production of poultry meat and eggs in January this year decreased by 10.9 percent and 10 percent, respectively.  Last month, all categories of farms produced 3,392 tons of poultry meat and 88.2 million eggs (in January last year, they produced more than 96 million eggs). 

As of February 1, 2024, there were 2,659,600 head of cattle on all categories of farms or 4.4 percent more than on that date of the preceding year, 6,634,500 head of sheep and goods or 5,4 percent more than on that date of the preceding year. 

As of February 1, 2024, public and dehqon farms have reportedly stocked 55,000 tons of grain and legume seeds, including 47,600 tons of wheat seeds, more than 79,000 tons of potato seeds and more than 17,500 tons of cotton seeds. 

As of February 1, 2024, more than 8,500 tons of wheat, 2,700 tons of potatoes, more than 8,000 tons of vegetables and about 1.5 million cans of canned products have been kept in storage (reserves of the Agency on State Material Reserves not included).        

Compare to January last year, exports of livestock products, mainly meat and dairy products, in January this year increased 22.5 times, exceeding 1.3 million US dollars.  

Compared to January last year, cotton fiber exports reportedly increased 2.2 times last months, amounting to about 22.4 million US dollars.

Meanwhile, livestock products imports last month increased by 25 percent compared to January last year, amounting to more than 4.2 million US dollars.
