Tajikistan increases agricultural production

Over the first three months of this year, gross agricultural product from all categories of farms has been little more than 3.53 billion somonis (in current prices), 6.7-percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to Agency for Statistics  under the President of Tajikistan.  

Over the reporting period, crop growing products have amounted to 112.4 million somonis and animal husbandry has amounted to 3.418.5 billion somonis.  

According to data from the Plant Cultivation Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, spring sowing this year has been carried out on 440,727 hectares and about 80 percent of agricultural fields have been plowed as of April 29.   

By April 30, cotton has bene planted on more than 164,000 ha, which is more than 88.4 percent of the target, which has been determined at 186,000 ha.  

Over the first months of this year, all categories of farms have planted potatoes on 18,187 ha, which is 45.4 percent of the target, which has been determined at little more than 40,000 ha. 

These days, Tajik farmers are engaged in sowing oilseeds, vegetables, melons and fodder crops; on many of them, they have reached 50 percent of targets.  

Meanwhile, the sowing of spring grains has already been completed in the country.  It is predicted that Tajik farmers will produce more than 1.7 million tons of grains, including 998,000 tons of wheat, 1.1 million tons of potatoes, 2.7 million tons of other vegetables, including 752,000 tons of onions and 874,000 tons of gourds.  

The production of many of them exceeds the country’s needs and they will be exported.
