JICA provides medical equipment to improve the quality of the medical services in Tajikistan

The handover ceremony of the medical equipment under the Japanese Grant Aid Project “Project for the Improvement of Medical Equipment in the National Medical Center of Tajikistan “Shifobakhsh” and the State Institution of Republican Scientific Center of Cardiovascular Surgery” took place at NMC “Shifobakhsh” and SI RSC Cardiovascular Surgery in Dushanbe city on May 1 with the participation of the Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population Jamoliddin Abdullozoda, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan Toshihiro Aiki,  Chief Representative of JICA Tajikistan Office Seiju Imai, and other stakeholders.

Recognizing the importance of improving the quality of the medical services in Tajikistan, the Government of Japan has allocated 957, 000, 000 Japanese Yen (approximately 6.5 million USD) through JICA to support the said Project.  The primary objective of the Project is to address the shortage and aging of medical equipment and to bolster the diagnosis and treatment systems in hospitals, thereby contributing to the overall improvement of medical services at the National Medical Center of "Shifobakhsh" and the State Institution of Republican Scientific Center of Cardiovascular Surgery.

Emphasizing the significance of Tajikistan – Japan cooperation, Health Minister Jamoliddin Abdullozoda noted that provided modern equipment will improve efficiency of medical services at the hospitals and enhance healthcare outcomes for the people of Tajikistan.

The JICA Tajikistan Office Chief Representative committed that JICA continues supporting the health sector through various projects, in order to provide better services for the people in Tajikistan.  Besides, JICA will dispatch a new expert on the Social Protection of Vulnerable Children and Families this year and continue its Technical Cooperation after 2026.  Both sides agreed on importance of proper management and maintenance of medical equipment to ensure their sustainable use and operation. 

The medical equipment comprises 42 items, including an Angiography system, Lithotripter ultrasonic, CT Scanner, Ultrasound Scanners, Ventilators, Surgical C-arm X-ray unit, and other modern medical equipment.  

This equipment is expected to significantly enhance the healthcare infrastructure in Tajikistan, and to strengthen the hospitals’ capacity to diagnose and treat various life-threatening diseases.

This landmark initiative stands as a testament to the enduring partnership between Tajikistan and Japan, underscoring their shared commitment to advancing healthcare and improving the well-being of the Tajik people.
