Tajik, Turkish chief prosecutor’s offices discuss detention and extradition of Dushanbe-wanted Tajik citizens

Yusuf Rahmon, Prosecutor-General of Tajikistan, yesterday met here with Bekir Şahin, General Prosecutor of the Supreme Court of Appeal of Turkiye, Bekir Şahin, who was in Tajikistan on a working visit, says the press center of the Prosecutor-General’s Office of Tajikistan.

In the course of the talks, the parties reportedly discussed issues related to preventing and combating crimes of international concern such as terrorism, extremism, human trafficking, drug trafficking and transnational organized crimes posing a serious threat to all humanity.  

The prosecutors also discussed issues of transfer of prisoners, detention and extradition of Tajik citizens wanted by Tajikistan authorities. 

To increase the efficiency of criminal investigations and prevent all types of crimes, Tajik and Turkish chief prosecutors signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation, according to the press center of the Prosecutor-General’s Office of Tajikistan.  

Tajikistan had previously signed a similar document with the Netherlands and Italy.  

On May 1, Tajikistan Interior Minister, Colonel-General Ramazon Rahimzoda, met here with Mr. Nicolaas Jacob Schermers, the Ambassador  Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Netherlands to Tajikistan.  The parties emphasized the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the field of countering and effectively combating terrorism, extremism, transnational organized crime, illicit drug trafficking, information exchange and assistance in strengthening peace and stability in Afghanistan.  They reportedly also discussed the important issue of detention and extradition of wanted persons to Tajikistan.

On April23, Tajikistan Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda met with his Italian counterpart Matteo Piantedosi in Rome.  The two reportedly discussed issues related to extradition of criminals.
