At least eight countries reportedly declare national mourning for Iranian president and foreign minister

Russian state-run news agency TASS reported today that at least eight countries, including Iran, yesterday announced national mourning for the Iranian president and foreign minister, who were killed in a helicopter crash on May 19.     

Lebanon and Syria reportedly announced three days of national mourning, while India, Iraq, Pakistan and Turkiye declared one-day national mourning.

TASS reports that Tajikistan allegedly set a two-day national mourning over the death of Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi.  

Sputnik Tajikistan says broadcasts of entertainment programs on state-run TV channels and radio stations were suspended in Tajikistan for two days.

The Islamic Republic of Iran declared a five-day national mourning following the deaths of President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and others in a helicopter crash.

Tehran confirmed yesterday morning that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and other officials died in a helicopter crash in a mountainous area of East Azerbaijan Province Sunday afternoon.
