Over the first six months of this year, 222 suicide and suicide attempts have been officially registered in Tajikistan, which is 11 cases fewer than in the same period last year, according to the Committee for Family and Women’s Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan.
An official source within the Committee for Family and Women’s Affairs told Asia-Plus in an interview that a totaled included 175 suicides (17 cases less compared to the same period last year) and 47 suicide attempts (six cases more than in January-June las year).
Based on data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Committee for Family and Women’s Affair says 112 men and 110 women have committed suicide over the reporting period (10 and 1 cases less respectively compared to the same period last year).
Besides, 18 juvenile males and juvenile females have committee suicides over the same six-month period.
Juvenile males have reportedly committed suicides seven cases less compared to the same period last year while juvenile females have committed suicides 2 cases more than in January-June last year.
As far as the causes of the suicide cases are concerned, 84 suicides have been related to psychiatric disease over the reporting period, which is 33 cases more than in January-June last year.
In January-June this year, 10 suicide cases have reportedly been caused by difficult financial conditions, which is 6 cases more than in the same period last year.
Besides, 35 suicides have been caused by family conflicts over the reporting period, which 15 cases more compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the cause of suicide was unknown in 83 cases, which is 32 cases fewer than in January-June last year.
