Emergencies Committee: There is threat of local mudflows within the next two days.

Asia-Plus

The Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan, citing meteorologists, reports that on September 27-28, there is a risk of local mudflows in several foothill and mountainous areas of districts subordinate to the center and Sughd province.

In this regard, the Emergencies Committee strongly urges adherence to all safety precautions.  Specifically, to mitigate the effects of mudflows, it is advised to clear drainage channels and mudflow diversion structures, and irrigation ditches of debris, and to exercise extreme caution while gathering firewood, fishing, herding livestock, and hunting in hazardous areas.

"Drivers, mountaineering enthusiasts, and those engaged in mountain auto-motor or bicycle tourism are advised to strictly follow safety protocols and maintain the recommended travel intervals when moving through mountainous terrain," reminds the Committee.

It is noted that, according to the country's Hydrometeorological Center (Hydromet), on September 27, partly cloudy skies with brief rain and thunderstorms are expected in Dushanbe. The daytime temperature will range between 22°C -24°C.

In districts subordinate to the center, brief rain (rain and snow at altitudes above 3,000 meters) is also expected in some places.  Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecasted for certain mountainous regions during the day, with temperatures reaching 19°C -24°C.

In the north of the country, partly cloudy skies with light rain are also expected today. Daytime temperatures will warm up to 21°C -23°C.

In Khatlon province, partly cloudy skies without significant precipitation are forecasted for today. Light rain is expected in some valleys, with daytime temperatures ranging from 23-28°C.

Brief rain is also expected today in Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO)’s capital, Khorog, with partly cloudy skies. Daytime temperatures will reach 21-23°C.  In general, the western parts of GBAO will experience temperatures of 18°C -23°C during the day, while the eastern parts of the region will see temperatures between 9°C -14°C.
