Asia-Plus

In his official address to the CIS summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Tajikistan will formally take over as the rotating chair of the organization in 2025 and Dushanbe will host the next annual CIS summit, with Tajik President Rahmon serving as the chairman.

In a statement delivered at the CIS summit in Moscow, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday presented priorities of Tajikistan’s chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

According to him, one of the main priorities of the country’s chairmanship will be “launching a discussion on improving the activities of the Commonwealth.”

In the political dimension, “work will continue to develop a positive image of the CIS on international stage as a regional association.”

Tajik leader emphasized that a special attention will be paid to “promoting the economic, environmental, cultural and humanitarian agenda.”

Emomali Rahmon stated that serious attention will be paid to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

The expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation was also called an important priority.

In the security field, special attention will be paid to expansion of practical cooperation in combating risks and threats to security, Tajik president noted.

At the end of his speech, Emomali Rahmon reportedly expressed confidence that decisions taken during the summit will give impetus to multilateral cooperation in all areas.
