Somon Air launches new air route connecting Dushanbe and Doha

Tajikistan’s privately-owned air carrier, Somon Air, says it in cooperation with Fly.Tj is starting to operate flights on a regular basis from Dushanbe to Qatar’s capital, Doha, which will serve as a new impetus for the development of bilateral relations between both countries.

Press release issued by Somon Air says the implementation of this flight is intended to strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation in the cultural, economic, trade and tourism spheres.  The first flight will take place on November 28, 2024.  Flights will be operated once a week on Thursdays.

Departure time from Dushanbe is 09:00 am, from Doha – 12:20 pm local time.  Travel time from Dushanbe to Doha is 3 hours 50 minutes; from Doha to Dushanbe is 3 hours 40 minutes.  Flights will be operated on Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737-900 aircraft.

Somon Air CEO, Abdulqosim Valiyev, said: “We are pleased to launch this route in the year of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Qatar.  Today, bilateral cooperation between the countries is dynamically developing and strengthening, which is carried out in the spirit of mutual respect and partnership in a whole range of areas of mutual interest.  This regular flight opens up new opportunities in air communication and tourism.  Currently, there is a visa-free regime between the Republic of Tajikistan and Qatar for citizens of both countries, and I am sure that Doha will be a real discovery for travel lovers.”

Flights will be operated to and from Hamad International Airport, which this year once again secured its position as the “Best Airport in the World” in a prestigious competition.  The airport offers an incredible level of comfort and service to its passengers.  Hamad Airport is located 4 km from the city and is a major hub.  Travelers can take advantage of favorable transit through this airport when traveling to Europe, America, Australia and other continents.

Somon Air is the first private airline in Tajikistan with an office headquartered in Dushanbe.  The airline operations are based at Dushanbe International Airport.  The airline started operating on February 5, 2008 with regular flights to Moscow and Dubai. 

Somon Air also serves as the official carrier of the President of Tajikistan and other Tajikistan high-ranking officials

Somon Air is a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).  Somon Air's fleet consists of Boeing 737-800 and 737-900 family aircraft.

The company is focused on expanding the route network of air transportation and the fleet, and currently operates regular flights from Tajikistan to Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Turkiye, China, India, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
