Prices for agricultural products in Tajikistan have fluctuated since the beginning of 2024, with some rising and others falling.
According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, prices for fruits, vegetables, sugar, and flour have significantly decreased over the past ten months. Lemon prices reportedly fell by 16.4%, apples by 2.4%, and grapes by 1.6%. The minimum price for apples in October was 4.80 somonis per kilogram, and for lemons, 5.50 somonis.
Vegetable prices overall dropped by 4.7%, with carrots becoming 20.3% cheaper, onions by 3.7%, and potatoes by 1.7%. The minimum price for carrots was 1.46 somonis per kilogram, and for potatoes, 4.00 somonis.
Sugar prices fell by 9.5%, with the minimum price per kilogram now 10.70 somonis. Locally produced flour saw a 9% price drop compared to the beginning of the year.
Experts attribute the decline in prices to seasonal factors and increased domestic production.
At the same time, significant price increases have been observed for other food products, particularly dairy and meat products.
Milk prices reportedly rose 8.8% (averaging 6.53 somonis per liter). Kefir now costs up to 18 somonis per liter, local cheese averages 87.6 somonis per kilogram, and butter is 100 somonis per kilogram.
Among meat products, beef prices increased the most, by 26.2%, followed by lamb at 17.3%. A kilogram of boneless meat now costs 100–120 somonis.
Some vegetables also became more expensive compared to the previous month. For example, cucumber prices rose by 18.9%, reaching an average of 10 somonis per kilogram. Bell peppers increased by 10.2%, and tomatoes by 7.5%. Compared to the beginning of the year, rice prices rose by over 9%.
Experts link the price hikes to seasonal factors and rising production and logistics costs.
