Project launched to introduce AI lessons launched in schools in Tajikistan

Asia-Plus

As part of Tajikistan's National AI Development Strategy, the government has launched a pilot project to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) lessons in schools.  The initiative, a key step toward achieving the goal of deriving 5% of the country's GDP from AI technologies by 2040, aims to foster AI literacy among students.

The project has been initiated by the Council for Ai at the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT).

AI lessons have begun in five schools: Dushanbe International School, Contofield International School, Navovar Private School, Kafolat Gymnasium, and the Tajik-Russian Lyceum "Khotam and PV."

Initial testing assessed students’ knowledge of digital technologies to tailor the program to their needs.

AI classes are currently held as extracurricular activities, but a nationwide rollout into the official curriculum is planned for 2026.

Teachers from three schools in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), including one in GBAO’s Darvoz district, underwent intensive training in AI concepts, practical tools, and methodologies to effectively teach the subject.

The curriculum, targeting middle and high school students, covers AI fundamentals, applications in daily life, and use cases in fields such as healthcare, education, and science.  Students work on practical tasks to develop critical thinking and data analysis skills, culminating in projects that showcase their knowledge.

This initiative aims to create a robust AI ecosystem in Tajikistan, ensuring that advanced technology education is accessible to every student.
