Tajikistan’s position in the Global Prosperity Index

Asia-Plus

The Canadian analytical and financial platform HelloSafe has introduced its version of the Global Prosperity Index (HelloSafe Prosperity – 2024) for the first time.

Tajikistan ranks 104th among 186 countries with a score of 30.93.  Within Central Asia, only Kyrgyzstan ranks lower, in 114th place, scoring 29.36.

Comparatively, Kazakhstan ranks the highest in the region at 49th place (47.36 points). Uzbekistan follows in 86th place (35.33 points), Turkmenistan in 103rd (31.03 points), and Russia in 50th place (46.69 points).

Score Interpretation:

  • Below 30: Very low prosperity levels
  • 30–40: Low prosperity levels
  • 40–50: Moderate prosperity levels
  • 50–60: High prosperity levels
  • Above 60: Very high prosperity levels

The top 20 most prosperous countries are predominantly European, led by Luxembourg (86.2), followed by Norway (85.12) and Ireland (84.7).  These scores reflect strong economies combined with high human development and income equality.

Qatar and Singapore stand out as the only non-European countries in the top five, underscoring their dynamic economies and advanced infrastructure.

The United States and Canada rank 18th and 19th, while France rounds out the top 20 with 60.4 points, indicating high prosperity but at a lower level than Northern Europe and some rapidly developing Asian economies.

The index's lowest ranks are occupied by African nations: Madagascar (184th), the Central African Republic (185th), and Mozambique (186th).

The HelloSafe Prosperity Index has been designed to provide a comparative measure of the prosperity of countries, taking into account a combination of economic and social factors. Unlike rankings based solely on GDP, our index incorporates social indicators such as the Human Development Index (HDI) and the Gini coefficient, which reflect the quality of life and economic equity within a country. We have weighted the indicators according to their impact on overall prosperity. For example, GDP per capita has been weighted at 30%, as it remains a key indicator of a country's overall wealth. GNI per capita completes this perspective with a 20% weighting, to include foreign income and show the full range of resources available to citizens. Finally, social indicators such as the HDI and the Gini coefficient strengthen our index, reflecting respectively quality of life (20%) and income inequality (15%), which have a direct influence on people's well-being.

The index is based on six indicators weighted differently to give a score out of 100, representing a country's overall prosperity: GDP per capita – 30%; GNI per capita – 20%; cross national savings rate – 5.0%; human development index (HDI) – 20%; Gini coefficient – 15%; and poverty rate – 10%.
