In Dushanbe’s Shohmansour district, a woman and her three children were poisoned by carbon monoxide, the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan reports

All four were hospitalized at Central Medical Hospital No. 3 in Dushanbe and are currently in the intensive care unit under medical supervision.

The woman is 33 years old, and her children are 4, 10, and 13 years old.

The Emergencies Committee identified the cause of the poisoning as "non-compliance with safety regulations when using the coal burning furnace  for home heating."

Earlier, on December 17, in Sebzor village of Shahriston district in Sughd province, two children died from carbon monoxide poisoning, while two others were in critical condition.

According to the Emergencies Committee, the children lost consciousness and were taken to the hospital.  Despite the doctors' efforts, two of them succumbed to severe poisoning.  One of the deceased was 6 years old, and the other was 13 years old.

The Emergencies Committee reminds citizens of the importance of following safety measures when using coal for heating during the winter season.  Special attention should be paid to proper ventilation to prevent the accumulation of hazardous gases like carbon dioxide (CO₂) and carbon monoxide (CO), which can lead to poisoning or even death.

In the event of carbon monoxide poisoning, victims should immediately be moved to fresh air and taken to medical facilities.

The Emergencies Committee also urges all citizens to exercise caution when using coal for heating to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
